CD Projekt Red has revealed that its upcoming Witcher 3 expansion will be comparable in size to the entirety of The Witcher 2, offering players a substantial new chapter in Geralt’s story rather than a brief add-on.
The expansion, titled Hearts of Stone, is a ten-hour adventure that sends the series’ protagonist into a dangerous region known as No Man’s Land, where he takes on a contract for a mysterious figure called the Man of Glass. The scale of the content has drawn significant attention from fans of the series, many of whom had expected post-launch additions to be considerably shorter.
CD Projekt Red spokesperson Marcin Momot confirmed the studio has been developing the expansion for an extended period and said further details would be released later in the week. The announcement is expected to draw players back to the game, though questions remain about how new content will integrate with The Witcher 3’s carefully constructed balance and progression system.
Both Hearts of Stone and the game’s second planned expansion are available together through the Witcher 3 Expansion Pass, priced at £20, though individual pricing for each expansion has not yet been confirmed.
Among the features coming with the update is a player stash system, allowing items to be stored and accessed at various locations across the game world — a quality of life addition that has been widely requested by the community since launch.
CD Projekt Red has also warned players against downloading a leaked piece of downloadable content that has been circulating, stating the content is unfinished and could cause issues affecting the overall gaming experience.
