A 13-year-old boy was shot after gunfire was directed at an apartment in south-east Atlanta early on Sunday morning, police said.
Officers from the Atlanta Police Department were called to 942 Hank Aaron Drive SE at about 3.58am following reports that someone had been shot.
The teenager was found inside the property with an apparent gunshot wound. He was conscious, alert and breathing when paramedics took him to hospital.
The shooting took place at the Capitol Vanira apartment complex, where investigators reportedly found evidence that more than 100 rounds had been fired. The boy’s mother told local media that her son had been shot four times while asleep.
He was later released from hospital, according to his mother.
Police said preliminary evidence indicated that shots had been fired into the residence from outside. Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, including whether the apartment was specifically targeted.
No suspect has been identified and no arrests have been announced. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive or confirmed how many shots were fired.
