A 27-year-old police officer has died after the patrol car he was travelling in collided with another vehicle while responding to an emergency call in Kent, with a second officer who was in the same car remaining in a critical condition in hospital.
PC Bradley Corke, who had served with Kent Police since May 2022 and was based in Tonbridge covering communities across West Kent, sustained fatal injuries when the marked Ford Focus he was travelling in crashed on the westbound carriageway of the A20 London Road at its junction with Button Street in Farningham at approximately 7.45pm on Thursday. He died the following day.
The collision involved the police vehicle and a VW Scirocco. Kent Police confirmed the patrol car was clearly identifiable as an emergency vehicle at the time of the crash and that both officers had been responding to an urgent call when the incident occurred.
The force has appealed for witnesses to come forward with any information about what took place at the junction that evening.
Kent Police paid tribute to PC Corke, saying he had selflessly given his life while trying to protect others who were in danger, and that his bravery, dedication and commitment to helping people would never be forgotten. His family and colleagues were described as devastated, with the force said to be providing ongoing support to those affected.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct is expected to be informed of the incident, as is standard procedure when an officer dies in circumstances connected to a police operation. The condition of the second officer, who remains hospitalised, is being closely monitored by the force.
