Two men were shot dead outside a gay bar in Tucson, Arizona, in an attack being investigated as a possible hate crime, police said.
Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33, were confronted in the car park of Venture-N shortly after midnight on Monday, August 31, according to the Tucson Police Department.
Police believe Ousman Ceesay, 44, shot both men before suffering gunshot wounds himself. He was taken to hospital but later died.
Siqueiros and Capara were pronounced dead at the scene at the bar on North Sixth Avenue, near the junction with Speedway Boulevard.
Investigators said Ceesay was carrying a note listing several businesses associated with the LGBTQ+ community. Police have not disclosed a clear connection between the suspect and the victims.
The Tucson Police Department said the evidence so far had led it to investigate the shooting as a bias-motivated attack and a possible double murder-suicide.
Chief Monica Prieto said: “Bias-based crimes are especially heinous and have no place in our community.”
She added that there was no indication of an ongoing threat to the public, but that officers had increased their presence around LGBTQ+ establishments in the city while the investigation continued.
