Bayern Munich teenager Lennart Karl could become available to Premier League clubs, with his future reportedly linked to Michael Olise’s decision over a new contract.
Christian Falk, writing in his CF Bayern Insider column, said Bayern are waiting to see whether Olise remains at the Allianz Arena before deciding how Karl’s position at the club should develop.
Olise’s departure could create a clearer pathway for the 18-year-old, who is viewed as a possible successor to the French attacking midfielder. If Olise stays, however, Karl may find himself further down the pecking order and could consider a move elsewhere.
Arsenal monitoring Lennart Karl situation
Arsenal have previously been reported to be monitoring Karl as a long-term target, while Liverpool have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
Falk said there are currently no contract talks between Bayern and Karl, adding that the club’s plans could change depending on Olise’s future.
“These two players’ futures are very much connected. I’ve talked with a few people at the club on the subject of Lennart Karl, and the situation is that there are currently no contract talks with the 18-year-old. Everyone is waiting to see what is happening with Michael Olise,” he wrote.
According to Falk, Bayern could offer Karl a short-term contract before receiving Olise’s answer. That would give the club greater protection over the teenager’s future while preserving its options in the position.
“There could also be the idea at Bayern Munich to offer Lennart Karl a contract in the immediate short-term future,” Falk said. “This could be cheaper than waiting for an answer from Michael Olise, which could very well be a ‘no’.”
He added that Karl could either remain at Bayern and compete for more minutes, or leave if the right opportunity emerges. The youngster’s next step is therefore expected to depend heavily on whether Olise stays or departs in the summer.
Arsenal will be among the clubs watching the situation, with the north London side potentially facing competition from Liverpool and other interested parties if Karl becomes available.
