Vincent Joseph leaves Liverpool for Arsenal after the highly rated 16-year-old forward turned down scholarship terms with the Merseyside club.
Joseph’s decision ends a nine-year spell at Liverpool and sees him continue his development with the Arsenal academy. He confirmed his departure in an Instagram message thanking the club for the memories and formative years he had spent there.
“After 9 unforgettable years, the time has come to say goodbye. Thank you for the memories, and for making my time here truly special.”
Vincent Joseph leaves Liverpool for Arsenal
The teenager is expected to join Arsenal’s scholarship intake, having attracted attention with his goalscoring record at youth level. His exit represents a significant loss for Liverpool’s academy, which was unable to persuade him to remain at the AXA Training Centre.
Joseph has scored eight goals in nine appearances for England Under-16s. He also found the net twice in three outings for Liverpool Under-18s, despite being among the younger players in that age group.
His finishing, movement and tactical awareness have marked him out as a promising attacking prospect, while Arsenal’s recruitment of the forward adds another highly rated youngster to the club’s academy.
Arsenal are also reported to be monitoring Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha. Liverpool regard Ngumoha as untransferable and are in discussions over an improved contract, although Arsenal remain among his leading admirers should an opportunity emerge in the future.
The two clubs’ interest in developing young talent has therefore produced another point of competition, with Joseph now set to pursue his path to senior football in north London.
