Declan Rice’s new contract talks with Arsenal are understood to be progressing positively, although an agreement has not yet been finalised.
There is optimism on all sides that a deal can be completed soon, but Rice’s position contrasts with the uncertainty surrounding three other prominent members of the squad.
Kai Havertz, David Raya and captain Martin Odegaard all have contracts running until 2028. However, there is currently less clarity over their long-term futures at Arsenal.
Discussions involving the trio had been expected to take place in the near future, with that expectation repeated over recent months. The continued lack of visible progress has therefore become noteworthy.
That delay does not necessarily indicate a problem. Contract negotiations can be held up for a range of reasons, but Arsenal will not want the situation to continue unresolved for too much longer.
For now, Rice’s renewal appears to be moving towards a positive conclusion, while the futures of Raya, Odegaard and Havertz remain less certain.
