Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Como attacking midfielder Nico Paz as Mikel Arteta considers potential long-term additions to his squad. The 22-year-old Argentina international has emerged as one of Serie A’s most promising young players since moving to Italy.
Paz’s performances under manager Cesc Fabregas have attracted interest from several leading European clubs, with Arsenal now assessing whether he could become a future target.
Arsenal face Real Madrid complication over Nico Paz
Como completed a permanent deal for Paz this summer for around €60 million, securing his full rights after his development in Italy. However, Real Madrid retained an €80 million (£68.7 million) unilateral buy-back option that can be exercised in summer 2027.
The clause could prove decisive if Arsenal attempt to negotiate a deal. Even if the Gunners reach an agreement with Como, Real Madrid would have the option to bring Paz back to the Bernabeu before he could complete a move to north London.
Paz was previously part of the Real Madrid academy and reportedly chose to remain with Como this season because he wanted regular first-team football rather than immediately competing with the Spanish club’s established midfielders.
Fabregas has compared Paz with Lionel Messi, citing the treatment he receives from opponents during matches.
Nico Paz would offer Arsenal attacking versatility
Arsenal’s interest reflects Paz’s ability to operate in several positions. He is comfortable receiving the ball between the lines and can play as a No 10, in central midfield or in wider attacking areas.
That flexibility would give Arteta another creative option alongside a midfield group that already includes Martin Odegaard, Bruno Guimaraes, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino.
Any move would therefore appear to be aimed at strengthening Arsenal’s options for the future rather than addressing an immediate shortage. The principal obstacle remains Real Madrid’s buy-back clause, which gives the Spanish club significant control over Paz’s next move.
