Arsenal intend to keep Noni Madueke at the club beyond the January transfer window, despite the winger’s limited Premier League involvement and interest from Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Mikel Arteta is understood to view the 24-year-old as part of his plans, with the club expected to reject any approaches for the England international when the transfer window reopens.
Madueke has made only two substitute appearances in the league this season, totalling 24 minutes without a goal or assist. His position has been further complicated by Bukayo Saka’s established role on the right and the emergence of teenager Max Dowman as another attacking option.
Madueke remains part of Arteta’s plans
Juventus are reportedly considering a loan move, while Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the situation. Madueke, however, is understood to be willing to stay at the Emirates Stadium and compete for a starting place.
His involvement in other competitions has been more substantial. He started the Community Shield, featured in Arsenal’s Champions League victory over Napoli and scored in the 4-2 Carabao Cup win against Ipswich Town.
The lack of regular league football has nevertheless affected his international prospects. Thomas Tuchel left Madueke out of England’s latest Nations League squad.
Arsenal’s reluctance to sanction a departure reflects the demands of a season involving the Premier League, Champions League and domestic cups. An injury or change in form could quickly increase the need for another wide attacking option.
Madueke is contracted until 2030, leaving Arsenal under no immediate financial pressure to sell. His ability to play on either wing and his Premier League experience also provide Arteta with useful squad depth.
The rise of Dowman has increased competition for places, but Arsenal do not currently appear ready to let that lead to a transfer. Madueke’s limited league minutes may make the coming months important, with Juventus and Atletico likely to retain an interest if his opportunities do not improve.
