Presley Gerber’s autopsy has been completed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, but his official cause of death remains deferred following his suspected overdose.
Gerber died on Sunday at a rehabilitation facility at the age of 27. A 911 call reportedly described the incident as a suspected overdose, while police said no foul play was suspected.
Sources familiar with the situation said Gerber had been living at a luxury rehabilitation facility with several other people. However, the medical examiner has not officially linked his death to an overdose or identified any specific substance.
Months before his death, Gerber discussed undergoing an “Ibogaine Flood Dose” treatment. He said he had been “absolutely terrified” beforehand, but hoped the experience would help him find his way back to himself.
Ibogaine is a psychedelic drug that has been studied as a possible treatment for addiction. It is illegal in the United States but accessible in other countries, including Mexico.
In a post in March, Gerber wrote that relinquishing control had been difficult and that he had finally faced what he had been running from. He said he hoped it would be the last time he had to return for treatment.
His family responded to the post, with his mother, Cindy Crawford, calling him a “warrior”. His father, Rande Gerber, praised his courage, while his sister, Kaia Gerber, said she was “so damn proud”.
