Alexis Mac Allister could leave Liverpool next summer after Ben Jacobs revealed that the club are not currently planning to offer the Argentina international a new contract.
Speaking on The Redmen TV, the transfer journalist said Liverpool were taking a data-led approach to the midfielder’s future and would assess his performances during the 2026-27 campaign before deciding whether to change their position.
“My read from Liverpool sources is as it stands, he’s not going to get a new Liverpool contract,” Jacobs said. “My expectation is once Alexis Mac Allister leaves, and that will likely be summer 2027, a new midfielder will come in.”
The 27-year-old still has two years remaining on the five-year deal he signed after joining Liverpool from Brighton in 2023. He has made 150 appearances for the club and helped them win the Carabao Cup and the 2024-25 Premier League title.
Alexis Mac Allister contract situation at Liverpool
Mac Allister’s position has attracted particular attention after Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch agreed new long-term contracts. The midfielder has been left waiting, with Liverpool apparently prepared to judge whether his form merits fresh terms.
Mac Allister confirmed ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid that he had been informed the club was not in a position to offer him a new deal.
“There was a chance, of course,” he said when asked whether he could have left during the summer. “I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which makes me very, very sad.”
He added: “I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts, and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine.”
The midfielder insisted that his commitment to Liverpool had not changed, saying: “The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100 per cent until the last day I’m here.”
Mac Allister also said his future could still depend on how he performs this season. “Of course, there is still time,” he said. “It’s going to depend on how I perform during this year.”
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has offered public support to the player, describing him as important and saying there was still plenty of time to discuss the contract situation.
Mac Allister has started Liverpool’s last two league matches under Iraola, who has overseen an unbeaten start since taking charge. The midfielder’s performances over the coming months are now likely to play a major part in determining whether his Anfield career extends beyond the current agreement.
Liverpool have also been linked with Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, who has reportedly been identified as a possible replacement should Mac Allister leave in 2027.
