Australia’s lead has reached 300 in the first Test against South Africa, with commentators debating how far the hosts will extend their advantage before declaring.
A total of 400 has been suggested as a possible marker, although the discussion has also recalled South Africa’s pursuit of 414 in Perth in 2008. That side included Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and a young JP Duminy, while Australia’s attack featured spinner Jason Krejza.
Former Australia opener Simon Katich, who played in that match and is now part of the commentary team, has not referred to the memorable chase during the latest discussion.
Alex Carey has added another boundary, taking him to 24, while Renshaw is unbeaten on 44. South Africa all-rounder Mulder dived in an attempt to prevent the ball reaching the boundary and appeared to injure his shoulder, but has remained on the field.
Australia are 4-205.
