Marcus Rashford’s injury has left Manchester United and England waiting for clarity after the forward was forced off during the 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Rashford appeared to slip awkwardly before being withdrawn in the 77th minute, creating an immediate concern for United manager Michael Carrick at the start of the international break.
United rescued a point late on when Matheus Cunha’s deflected effort found the net in the 89th minute, but the focus afterwards was on whether Rashford would be fit to join England.
Carrick unsure over Rashford’s England availability
Asked whether Rashford might have to withdraw from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, Carrick said it was too soon to make a judgement.
“I really don’t know,” he said. “As you can imagine, at the end of the game I’ve spoken to the players and not really got to that stage. So we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Rashford has been named in England’s 27-man squad after appearing in each of United’s five Premier League matches this season. He is yet to score or provide an assist in the league but remains part of Tuchel’s plans.
The forward recorded one goal and one assist in six appearances during the 2026 World Cup, when England finished third.
England are due to begin their Nations League campaign against Spain at Wembley on September 26. They will then face Czechia on September 29, Croatia on October 3 and Czechia again on October 6.
The international break could give Rashford time to recover without immediately costing him a United fixture, as Carrick’s side do not have another league match straight away. However, an England withdrawal would be a setback after he had worked his way back into the international picture.
United will also be wary of further attacking absences. Benjamin Sesko missed the Fulham match after suffering a knock against Brighton, leaving Carrick with fewer forward options.
Rashford’s pace and ability to stretch defences remain important to United despite his slow start in front of goal. The next medical assessment will determine whether the problem is minor enough for him to take part in England’s Nations League schedule or return to club duty after the break.
