Chadwick Boseman’s widow has accused his brothers of using a lawsuit over the actor’s estate as a “public-relations stunt” intended to damage her reputation.
Taylor Simone Ledward made the claim in a legal response to Derrick and Kevin Boseman, who have asked a court to remove her as administrator of the estate and appoint attorney Jason Rubin instead.
Ledward argues that she has done nothing wrong and should remain in the role. She cited payments made to Boseman’s parents, Carolyn and Leroy, in the years since his death as evidence of her administration of the estate.
She also said she had given about 300,000 dollars of her own money to Derrick Boseman’s children, Chadwick Boseman’s nephews. Ledward said she did so because she believed the actor had wanted his family to be cared for after his death.
Although she is seeking to retain control of the estate, Ledward said she would oppose the appointment of Rubin if she were removed. She referred to what she described as “serious allegations” involving him in other cases, while acknowledging that she did not know whether those claims were true.
Ledward said the allegations should nevertheless be considered and potentially investigated before Rubin was appointed administrator. She has indicated that she is prepared to go to court to demonstrate that she has fulfilled her responsibilities.
