Chelsea step up pursuit of JJ Gabriel
Chelsea have been tracking Gabriel for some time and see him as a strong fit for their strategy of recruiting promising young players. The London club are now seeking to take advantage of the uncertainty over his future.
The teenager made a significant impact for Manchester United’s Under-18s last season, scoring 26 goals in 29 appearances. His versatility across the forward line has added to his reputation as one of the most exciting young players in English football.
Gabriel has also been involved around United’s senior squad and featured in the club’s pre-season match against Atletico Madrid. He had appeared to be on course for a first-team debut this season before the latest developments.
United are not yet prepared to concede defeat. The club reportedly believes there is still an opportunity to change Gabriel’s mind and retain a player regarded as a potential future first-team star.
Chelsea would face competition for his signature, with Real Madrid and Barcelona also said to have shown an interest in the youngster.
While a move to Stamford Bridge would represent another major investment in youth, Gabriel’s immediate future remains unresolved as United attempt to keep him at Old Trafford.
