Chelsea have agreed a £47 million deal to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, who is expected to complete a six-year contract subject to passing a medical.
The 22-year-old Senegal international has emerged as the club’s preferred replacement for Enzo Fernandez, with the Argentina midfielder set to join Manchester City in a £125 million transfer.
Monaco rejected an earlier Chelsea offer worth £38.5 million (€45 million) on Tuesday, but negotiations continued before the clubs reached an agreement. Camara joined Monaco from Metz in 2024 and has spent the past two years with the Ligue 1 side. Fernandez’s move to Manchester City will equal the British transfer record set by Liverpool for Alexander Isak last summer. Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica for £107 million in January 2023. Chelsea had also considered Roma midfielder Manu Kone and explored other midfield options in the Premier League as they sought to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closed.
Fernandez is due to undergo a medical and finalise his move to City, where he will be reunited with former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca. The transfer window closes at 11pm, although clubs can submit deal sheets to receive additional time to complete outstanding deals.
