Two boys aged 11 and 12 have died and two women have been injured after a shooting at an apartment complex in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
DeKalb County police were called to 1075 North Hairston Road on Sunday, September 20, following reports that several people had been shot.
An 11-year-old boy was found with gunshot wounds and died at the scene. An injured 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition but later died.
A 19-year-old woman and a 39-year-old woman were also taken to hospital. Both were said to be in a stable condition.
The address is listed as the Nissan Golden Gate apartment community. Police tape was placed around part of the complex as investigators examined the scene.
Detectives believe the shooting may have followed a fight or disagreement earlier in the day, although the circumstances remain under investigation.
“This is an unimaginable loss for the families involved and our entire community. We extend our deepest condolences to everyone affected by this senseless tragedy,” the DeKalb County Police Department said.
Police said there was no ongoing threat to nearby residents and that the incident was not being treated as an active-shooter situation.
The identities of the two boys and the injured women have not been released. Authorities have not named any suspects or announced arrests, and it is not yet known whether the victims were related.
