A 32-year-old woman is accused of fleeing a series of hit-and-run crashes in Adelaide before allegedly punching and biting police officers during her arrest.
The incident began shortly after midnight on Sunday in the city’s north-eastern suburbs, when the woman allegedly crashed her Toyota RAV4 into a vehicle on Montague Road in Ingle Farm.
Police allege she then drove away and was involved in three further hit-and-run crashes. A member of the public subsequently reported seeing a RAV4 travelling towards the city from Medindie, allegedly at speed, dangerously and on the wrong side of the road.
The vehicle eventually stopped after a head-on collision with a Mini Cooper on Mann Road in North Adelaide. The woman driving the Mini, from Mawson Lakes, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
As officers moved to arrest the alleged driver, police claim she became violent.
“The woman punched a police officer numerous times and bit another officer on the finger as she was being arrested,” police said. “The police officers involved were not seriously injured.”
The woman, from Pookara, has not yet been charged and is expected to face charges once she is considered medically fit.
Police said the anticipated charges include three counts of driving without due care, three counts of speed dangerous, two counts of failing to stop at a crash scene and aggravated assault of a prescribed emergency worker.
