Ford Australia has recalled 3,745 F-150 vehicles over concerns that a defect could cause the fuel tank strap to detach while the vehicle is being driven, potentially leading to a fire.
The affected vehicles were manufactured between 2023 and 2026. Ford said the strap may not have been properly secured to the frame rail, allowing fuel to leak if it becomes detached.
“This could cause fuel to leak and, in the presence of an external ignition source, result in a vehicle fire,” the company said in its recall notice.
Ford warned that a fire could increase the risk of injury or death to people inside the vehicle and other road users, as well as damage nearby property.
Ford F-150 owners urged to contact dealers
Owners of affected Ford F-150 vehicles have been told to contact an authorised Ford dealer to arrange an inspection and repair. The work will be carried out free of charge.
The recall is the latest in a series of issues involving the model since its Australian release in 2023. Ford Australia has launched 13 recalls for F-150 vehicles across the nation in the last four years.
Previous manufacturing problems have included non-compliant lighting, steering wheel issues and non-compliant emergency braking. The company has also issued four stop-sales for the vehicles since 2023.
