New bodycam footage of Luigi Mangione’s arrest shows police placing him in handcuffs inside a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a five-day manhunt.
The footage captures an officer asking Mangione to remove his mask before police privately indicated that they believed he was “100%” the suspect they were seeking.
Mangione initially gave officers a fake identity. When they asked whether his real name was Mark Rosario, he confirmed his identity and acknowledged that he “clearly shouldn’t have” lied.
Police discover magazine during search
During a search of his backpack, officers found a gun magazine wrapped in his underwear. One officer then said: “It’s f***ing him, dude.”
Mangione was later told to stand up and informed that he would be searched. He told officers he had a “jar of peanut butter” on him before being arrested.
He appeared calm throughout the encounter, while one officer photographed him in handcuffs.
Footage from after Mangione arrived at the police station shows officers discovering the gun used to kill UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson.
Mangione’s state murder trial has been delayed until October 9. After he pleaded guilty in a federal case in August, a Manhattan judge postponed the proceedings indefinitely while considering his legal team’s double-jeopardy motion.
