A fire that began in a shed near Robert’s Lafitte, a historic LGBTQ bar in Galveston, Texas, on Friday evening left the venue largely unscathed but sent two residents to hospital.
Fire crews were called to the corner of Avenue Q and 25th Street, where the blaze spread from the shed to a building on its southern side. Robert’s Lafitte was closed at the time and was not seriously damaged, officials said.
Galveston Battalion Chief William Roy said the two people taken to hospital lived in an apartment behind the shed. Their conditions were not immediately known.
Robert’s Lafitte, at 2501 Avenue Q, is described by Visit Galveston as the city’s original drag-show bar and the oldest LGBT bar in Texas under the same ownership.
The cause of the fire remained undetermined on Saturday. The Galveston Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
