Georgia’s Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist police after a shooting at a Subway restaurant in Jefferson, Georgia, on Tuesday evening.
The incident took place at the restaurant at 5210 US-129, near Exit 137 in Jackson County. Jefferson Police said the scene remained active while officers gathered evidence.
Police urged drivers to avoid the area because of heavy traffic delays, but said there was no active threat to the wider public.
Evidence markers were seen across the pavement outside the restaurant, indicating the locations of spent bullets, according to local reports.
The GBI confirmed that Jefferson Police had requested its assistance with the shooting investigation. Officials have not said whether anyone was injured or identified any suspected victims or offenders.
No information has been released about what led to the shooting, and it was not immediately clear whether anyone had been arrested.
