Gemini Spark is gaining control of Google Photos, allowing subscribers in the US to search, edit, organise and share images through multi-step instructions rather than carrying out each task manually.
The personal agent can work across a user’s photo library to find pictures by subject, location, date or event, identify preferred shots and filter out duplicates. It can also combine several actions in a single request, such as selecting images from a holiday, improving them and placing them in a new album.

Users will be able to ask Spark to make quick enhancements, apply fixes, create collages and produce stylised images. Any edited image is saved as a new copy in Google Photos, leaving the original file unchanged.
The service can create private or shared albums and add selected photos to them. It can also prepare links to shared albums for use in connected applications including Gmail, Google Docs and Messages.
One of the more advanced features is the ability to schedule recurring jobs. For example, Spark could be instructed to gather a user’s best food photographs each weekend, create a collage and place it in a new album. Other potential uses include building monthly highlight albums or sorting photographs of receipts.
Gemini Spark can also read text contained in photographs. Information extracted from an image can be summarised or reformatted in a Google Document, or passed to another task within the connected applications.
A photograph of a concert schedule, for instance, could be used alongside Google Calendar to identify which dates a user is available. Spark can also find the strongest photographs and videos from an event, create a shared album and prepare an email containing its link.
Google’s system is designed to retain user control over the most consequential actions. New albums are private by default, and Spark requests permission before sharing an album or sending an email. Photo edits are made on copies rather than the original images.
The Google Photos integration is being introduced over the coming weeks for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States. Availability in other countries has not been announced.
