Google is reportedly planning a crease-less display for the Pixel 12 Pro Fold, using dual ultra-thin glass technology being developed with Samsung Display for a new generation of foldable phones.
The Elec reports that Google, Oppo and Vivo are working with Samsung Display on the technology, which is also expected to feature in Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
The proposed design places one layer of ultra-thin glass above the OLED panel and another beneath it, providing additional support while helping to reduce the visible line that forms along the hinge of conventional foldable displays.
Pixel 12 Pro Fold display upgrade
Samsung Display and its partners are expected to tailor the screen and glass assembly to the requirements of each handset. The approach would mark a significant change for Google, whose Pixel 11 Pro Fold is reported to retain a more noticeable crease than several rival devices.
Manufacturers have been pursuing different methods to smooth the folding area. Samsung has used a titanium plate beneath the OLED panel, while Oppo has said it filled the crease area using liquid three-dimensional printing and combined that with thicker glass.
The report says Oppo and Vivo are expected to launch their next foldable models during the first half of 2027. Google’s Pixel 12 Pro Fold is expected later in the year, probably around August in line with the company’s usual release timetable.
The development would bring Google’s foldable display technology closer to that of newer models from rivals including Oppo, Honor and Samsung, as well as Apple’s anticipated entry into the market.
