An Alex Scott to Chelsea transfer could take place in January after claims emerged that the Bournemouth midfielder has a “gentleman’s agreement” allowing him to leave during the winter window.
Chelsea are understood to be interested in Scott as they assess additions to their midfield, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton also reportedly on their radar.
The suggestion that Bournemouth may be prepared to sanction a mid-season departure has raised the prospect of Scott moving sooner than expected. It had previously appeared that the Cherries would resist offers until next summer.
Indy Kaila News claimed on X that there was an informal agreement in place. “Just in! Rumors are flying around London that Alex Scott has a gentleman’s agreement to leave in January,” the account posted.
Alex Scott transfer could strengthen Chelsea midfield
The report remains an unconfirmed claim, but it would offer Chelsea a possible route to signing one of the Premier League’s highly regarded young midfielders before the end of the season.
Scott, 23, joined Bournemouth for £25 million and would be expected to command a significant profit if he leaves the club. His situation is likely to attract interest from other leading clubs as well as Chelsea.
Chelsea are seeking greater depth in midfield after failing to replace Enzo Fernandez when he left for Manchester City on deadline day. The club’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, has endured an unconvincing start at Stamford Bridge, and Scott’s arrival would give the side another option in the centre of the pitch.
Chelsea could choose to wait until the summer, but an agreement allowing Scott to depart in January would give them the opportunity to pursue a deal during the current season.
