Jackson Warne has shared a personal video message sent by his father, Shane Warne, to mark what would have been the Australian cricket great’s 57th birthday.
The 27-year-old posted the clip on Instagram with the caption: “Missing these updates, happy birthday Dad.”
In the footage, Warne appears to be on a golf course in Scotland. He speaks about the cold conditions, saying he is wearing several layers, a beanie and a snood because the temperature is four degrees.
“This is me rugged up. I’ve got a beanie. I’ve got about four different layers on. I’ve got a little snood that keeps my neck and that warm,” Warne says.
He then tells his family that he expects to see them in six days, adding: “I hope you had a good day and I’m missing and loving you lots. Let’s do this.”
Golf became one of Warne’s main sporting interests after he retired from international cricket. The clip was reportedly recorded while he was attending the Alfred Dunhill golf championship.
Warne died from a sudden heart attack while on holiday in Thailand in 2022. An autopsy confirmed the death was from natural causes.
Jackson’s sister, Brooke, responded to the video by writing: “These updates were the best, miss them so much.”
Jackson previously described his father as his “best friend” and said life would never be the same without him.
“I don’t think anything is ever going to fill the void you have left in my heart,” he said after Warne’s death. “But I know all you ever wanted for me is to be happy, no matter what.”
Warne was later honoured with a state funeral at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, attended by tens of thousands of people and watched by millions around the world.
