Kelsey Grammer is set to star in and executive produce Pops, a new EMT drama in development at NBC.
The 71-year-old Emmy-winning actor will play the title character in the series, written by Danny Weiss, a long-serving writer and producer on Chicago Med.
Pops follows a man whose successful career has come to an end as he seeks a fresh start by entering the demanding world of emergency medicine alongside first responders half his age.
The NBC project is based on the true story of Ed Levien, a Maryland resident who became a volunteer EMT in his 60s after a career in advertising.
Known as “Pops” to his younger colleagues, Levien worked as an EMT for 12 years before retiring last autumn at the age of 76.
The role would mark a return to NBC for Grammer, two decades after his hit sitcom Frasier ended. Earlier this year, the actor said he might be preparing for a significant change in his career.
