Stan Kroenke has agreed to buy a controlling stake in the Los Angeles Angels from the Moreno family, adding a Major League Baseball franchise to his expanding sports empire.
The deal, announced on Tuesday September 1, 2026, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions and approval by Major League Baseball. The purchase will give KSE a presence in all four of North America’s major professional sports leagues. The group owns the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, as well as the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League and Arsenal of the Premier League. KSE also developed SoFi Stadium and the surrounding 300-acre Hollywood Park district in Inglewood, where the Rams play. The Angels deal will extend the company’s footprint south into Orange County and strengthen its position across the Southern California sports and entertainment market.
The transaction ends Arte Moreno’s 23-year ownership of the Angels. He bought the club from the Walt Disney Company in 2003, shortly after the franchise won its only World Series.
Moreno said the family believed KSE was “the best next owner” for the team and said the organisation would remain committed to its supporters, employees, players and business partners.
The Angels enjoyed early success under Moreno, winning several American League West titles, but their fortunes have since declined. The club has not had a winning season since 2015 and had a record of 53-85 as of Tuesday, tied for the worst in the American League, according to MLB. That prolonged downturn, despite the presence of stars including Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, prompted repeated calls from fans for Moreno to sell.
