Eyewear entrepreneurs Linda and Allen Hammond have listed their architect-designed Byron Shire mansion for between $13.5 million and $14.5 million, citing the amount of time they spend travelling.
The contemporary four-bedroom home is in Coopers Shoot, in the hinterland of New South Wales’ North Coast. The Hammonds are also understood to own a property on the Gold Coast.
Linda Hammond founded and runs Otra Eyewear after co-founding Quay Australia with her husband. The couple sold Quay to a US private equity firm in 2016, after the sunglasses brand had built a global profile through collaborations with celebrities including Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton and Chrissy Teigen.
Quay Australia was launched at the Falls Festival in Melbourne in 2004, with the Hammonds’ son Zak later joining the business. The company had entered international markets by 2009.
“It’s a lock and leave as we spend most of our year travelling,” Linda Hammond said of the decision to sell the Byron Shire property.
Property records show the couple bought the original dwelling on the site for $2.085 million in 2016 before demolishing it and commissioning Zaher Architects to design the replacement.
Planning documents lodged in 2019 estimated the construction work at $2.677 million. The completed home spans two levels and includes timber-lined ceilings, Italian porcelain tiles and three sculptural feature staircases.
Its leisure facilities include a gym, swimming pool, Japanese-style bath and fire pit, while balconies look across the hinterland and coastline towards Lennox Head.
The Hammonds’ listing comes after the North Coast property record was set in 2023, when a Coopers Shoot home owned by members of the Oroton fashion empire family sold for $33.65 million.
Will Phillips and Denzil Lloyd of Byron Bay Sotheby’s International Realty are accepting expressions of interest for the Hammonds’ residence.
