Liverpool and Manchester United have made contact over a potential move for Dinamo Tbilisi winger Tornike Kvaratskhelia, the 16-year-old brother of Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha.
The Georgian teenager is attracting interest from several leading European clubs, although Bayern Munich are understood to be in the strongest position after giving him the opportunity to train at their academy.
Liverpool and Manchester United monitor Tornike Kvaratskhelia
Reports from TEAMtalk indicate that Liverpool and United are among the clubs to have registered their interest in Kvaratskhelia, who has made significant progress with Dinamo’s senior squad despite his age.
Chelsea and Tottenham are also closely following the winger, with TEAMtalk reporting that the two London clubs are currently at the forefront of Premier League interest. Manchester City, Brighton and Aston Villa have also made contact, while Arsenal and Newcastle are understood to be aware of his situation.
Kvaratskhelia’s surname has naturally added to the attention surrounding him, but the teenager is being assessed on his own potential rather than simply his relationship to his older brother.
Khvicha has established himself as one of Europe’s leading attackers with Paris Saint-Germain after beginning his career at Dinamo Tbilisi. Tornike, also a winger, is now following a similar early path at the Georgian club.
Bayern have already moved beyond the initial scouting stage. The youngster spent time training at the German club earlier this year and featured in a youth friendly, according to Bundesliga.com.
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed the arrangement, while cautioning against placing excessive expectations on a player still at the beginning of his career.
“He’s still a young lad, he has talent,” Freund said. “Whether he’s as good as his brother, who is outstanding, a world-class player, that would be an exaggeration.”
Bayern hold advantage in race for Dinamo Tbilisi winger
The experience has given Bayern an advantage over clubs who have so far only monitored Kvaratskhelia from a distance. The German champions have been able to assess him in their own environment and begin building a relationship with the player.
Any English club hoping to complete an immediate deal would also face restrictions on the international transfer of minors. Under the relevant rules, Kvaratskhelia could not move to England until he turns 18 in 2028.
That means Liverpool and Manchester United’s current interest is likely to form part of a longer-term recruitment process rather than lead to a transfer in the near future.
For now, Kvaratskhelia remains with Dinamo Tbilisi, but the growing competition for his signature means Bayern’s early involvement could prove significant as the teenager’s development continues.
