Liverpool and Chelsea are monitoring Marcos Llorente’s situation at Atletico Madrid, with the Spanish midfielder and right-back reportedly attracting interest as he approaches the end of his contract.
Manchester City are also understood to be tracking the 31-year-old, according to a report by TEAMtalk. Atletico will be keen to secure Llorente’s future, but uncertainty over a new agreement has placed several leading clubs on alert.
Llorente has experience at the highest level, having been part of Real Madrid’s Champions League-winning squad before establishing himself at Atletico. He is also described as a World Cup winner with Spain this summer.
Liverpool and Chelsea assess right-back options
Liverpool’s interest reflects their need for greater certainty at right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid. Jeremie Frimpong has struggled since arriving at Anfield, leaving the club yet to find an entirely convincing replacement.
Llorente’s ability to operate in midfield as well as at right-back could make him an attractive option for Liverpool. His versatility would offer an alternative in more than one area, while his experience could strengthen a squad competing at the highest level.
Chelsea also have defensive concerns and are seeking a better balance between youth and experience. Llorente could provide that blend, with the former Real Madrid player considered capable of making an impact for several more years.
He could also be used at right wing-back, particularly with Reece James now often playing in midfield. Chelsea have previously faced uncertainty over Malo Gusto’s future, meaning the club may want another option available in that position.
