Liverpool are reportedly in the driving seat to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, despite Chelsea also being linked with a move for the England international.
The 23-year-old has emerged as a stand-out performer for the Cherries, prompting growing speculation about his future. A report from the Daily Mirror had claimed Chelsea were confident of winning the race, but the Daily Mail now says Liverpool are leading the pursuit.
Liverpool and Chelsea weigh up Alex Scott transfer
Scott is believed to be valued at as much as £100 million, a figure that could prove decisive in the battle between the two clubs.
Chelsea may feel they are well placed financially after selling Enzo Fernandez for a substantial fee at the end of the summer without having time to secure a replacement. The funds remain available for a high-profile addition in midfield, with Scott viewed as a potential fit.
Liverpool, however, can offer Champions League football as well as the prospect of reuniting Scott with former manager Andoni Iraola. The Reds are also understood to be seeking greater quality in midfield.
Scott is seen as a possible upgrade on Alexis Mac Allister, who is considered no longer to be at the peak of his powers. The competition between Liverpool and Chelsea is therefore likely to depend on both the financial package and the player’s preferred destination.
