Liverpool and Chelsea have been handed a potential opportunity to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January, with the Cherries reportedly open to a mid-season sale under the right circumstances.
Scott, 23, has impressed since joining Bournemouth and is regarded as a player likely to attract a major transfer. His performances have also strengthened interest from both Premier League clubs.
Bournemouth had been expected to keep the England international until summer 2027, while his potential asking price has previously been put at around £100 million. However, a report from BBC Sport suggests the club may now consider offers during the January window.
Liverpool’s Andoni Iraola connection
Liverpool could have an advantage in the race because of Andoni Iraola’s relationship with Scott. The Spanish manager worked with the midfielder during his time in charge of Bournemouth and is now at Anfield.
Scott could offer Liverpool a different option in midfield, with the club potentially viewing him as an upgrade on Alexis Mac Allister. Any deal would nevertheless be expected to require a substantial fee.
Chelsea remain interested in Alex Scott
Chelsea are also expected to remain in contention after having a bid for Scott rejected during the summer. The London club are understood to have identified him, alongside Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, as a potential midfield target.
Scott or Wharton could be considered as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who left Chelsea late in the summer without the club signing another midfielder.
The possibility of Bournemouth entertaining a January transfer could therefore prompt renewed interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea, although Scott’s valuation is likely to remain a significant factor in any negotiations.
