A major search has resumed near Albury in southern New South Wales for missing 28-year-old Daniel Trenchard-Harry, with police urging residents to inspect their backyards, sheds and properties for any sign of him.
Mr Trenchard-Harry was last seen on Centaur Road in Hamilton Valley at about 6.30pm on Monday. Police have serious concerns for his welfare because he lives with an intellectual disability.
Land and air searches were carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday before operations continued on Thursday. Mr Trenchard-Harry is known to frequent bushland around the Albury area.
More than 50 people were involved in Wednesday’s operation, including police, mounted officers, motorbike riders, bushwalkers, specialist dogs and a police helicopter.
Acting Inspector Troy Martin said Mr Trenchard-Harry’s home backed on to bushland, but officers did not know which direction he had taken.
“He could have gone into the bushland or he could have gone to the main road. We have no exact location at this stage,” he said.
Mr Trenchard-Harry is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 160cm tall and of medium build, with distinctive red curly hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue boardshorts and a blue T-shirt, and was barefoot.
Inspector Martin said anyone who encountered him should keep their distance while trying to engage him in conversation about fishing, an activity he enjoys.
“If anyone does see him, if you could just talk about fishing with him, if you can just keep your distance while involving him in that conversation, that would be fantastic,” he said.
His family raised the alarm after they were unable to find him on Monday night and are being supported by police.
“His family are quite upset, quite worried,” Inspector Martin said. “We have a number of police with them at the moment and they’re providing the family with support.”
Residents in Hamilton Valley and the wider Albury area have been asked to check their properties for any indication that Mr Trenchard-Harry may be nearby.
