A 26-year-old man has died after being shot and pursued through Chicago’s South Side before crashing into a pole, police said.
Officers were called at about 7pm on Friday, September 25, to the 7500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighbourhood.
The man had been standing near his car outside a business when a black sedan carrying two people approached, according to the Chicago Police Department. One of the occupants opened fire, prompting him to get into his vehicle and drive away.
Police said the sedan followed him, with the gunman continuing to shoot towards the victim as both vehicles travelled through traffic. The man was struck in the back and knee before crashing into a pole near the 7400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.
He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Centre, where he later died. The two attackers fled and no other injuries were reported.
Area detectives are investigating the fatal shooting.
