Michael Tracey confronted the Ithaca Common Council during a tense meeting in which members were preparing to vote on a temporary moratorium on event permits for Cornell University and affiliated organisations.
Tracey, who had previously asked followers on X to identify a former Cornell student who accused seven fraternity members of drugging and sexually assaulting her, attended the meeting on Wednesday night.
He attempted to propose a motion to reconsider after councillors did not select him as one of the public commenters. Mayor Robert Cantelmo told him: “You’re definitely not eligible to make motions.”
Video from the meeting shows Tracey accusing the council of discarding his comment card. He also called for the mayor to resign before being escorted from the building.
The confrontation took place amid tensions surrounding Cornell University and the wider college town of Ithaca.
