Scotland Yard has made contact with Morgan McSweeney, formerly Sir Keir Starmer’s chief of staff, asking him to provide a formal statement as part of a renewed investigation into the reported theft of his mobile phone.
According to the Telegraph, officers reached out to Mr McSweeney on Thursday — a development that indicates the force has revisited a case that had apparently gone quiet since the incident was first reported.
The phone is alleged to have been snatched by a cyclist in October last year. Mr McSweeney was serving as the Prime Minister’s chief of staff at the time.
The Metropolitan Police’s decision to reopen the investigation comes as questions continue to surround the circumstances of the incident. No further details regarding the nature of those questions have been confirmed.
