Kylie Minogue, Jonathan Groff and Catherine Tate are joining Cynthia Erivo in Bad Fairies, a new animated musical comedy from Warner Bros. and Locksmith.
Erivo announced the casting during her one-night-only concert, Let Me Sing to You, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Thursday night.
Minogue will voice Chowder the Cat Witch, while Groff will play Robin Goodfellow and Tate will provide the voice of the Fairy Godmother. Erivo is leading the film as Jayne Staplegun.
During the concert, Erivo teased the orchestral arrangement of Jayne’s song Hard to Believe before walking into the audience to embrace Minogue.
Minogue said she was “so excited” to be involved in the film alongside Erivo, Groff and the rest of the voice cast.
“And getting to play both a cat and a witch? It’s a little bit magical, a little bit mischievous and a whole lot of fun,” she added.
Directed by Megan Nicole Dong and co-directed by Olivier Staphylas, Bad Fairies is set in contemporary London. The story follows a subversive group of fairies who disrupt their magical world.
The screenplay was written by Deborah Frances-White, with songs by Tony-winning duo Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. Isabella “Machine” Summers, known for her work with Florence + The Machine, provides the score and also contributes to the songs.
The previously announced voice cast includes Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Fei Chang, James Acaster as Stickers, Dee Bradley Baker as Groundbeef and Ncuti Gatwa as Butterwort.
Bad Fairies is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on May 21, 2027.
