A father in Bali allegedly chased his four-year-old daughter around a house before killing her, her six-year-old brother and himself, according to reports from Australia.
Laura, Archie and their 56-year-old father, Damien John Shaw, were found dead at the home in southern Bali after the children’s mother became concerned and asked a worker to check on them.
The mother was reportedly away from the property when she heard Laura crying during a phone call with Shaw. The call then ended unexpectedly.
She is said to have checked the house’s CCTV footage and watched as Shaw chased his daughter. Laura was reportedly heard shouting: “I love you, Daddy.”
Bali police have speculated that Archie may already have been dead when the pursuit took place, after Laura allegedly witnessed what had happened and tried to escape.
Police spokesman Senior Commander Ariasandy said: “It looks like he did it first to the son, and because [Laura] saw that, she was trying to escape.”
A friend of Shaw’s said he had been “struggling mentally” when they last spoke. The friend also said Shaw had mentioned wanting to kill himself after losing 140,000 dollars in a recent venture.
