The body of a newborn boy has been discovered in a rubbish bin in Auburn, western Sydney, as police appeal for the baby’s mother to seek urgent medical treatment.
Emergency services were called to Harrow Road at about 11.20am on Monday, 31 August, after reports that a baby had been found in a bin. Officers from Auburn Police Area Command attended and located the child.
NSW Police have established a crime scene and Auburn detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Police said they held “serious concerns” for the welfare of the baby’s mother, whose whereabouts remain unknown. Officers are urging her to attend her nearest hospital for medical care.
Investigators are also appealing to anyone who may have information about the incident, or who was in the area with relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage, to come forward.
