Newcastle United and Aston Villa are expected to revive their interest in Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane when the January 2027 transfer window opens.
Both Premier League clubs explored a move for the 20-year-old Cameroon international during the closing stages of the summer window, but neither was able to complete a deal. Kofane will remain with the Bundesliga club for the first half of the season, allowing his suitors to continue assessing whether he should become a winter priority.
Newcastle and Aston Villa maintain interest in Christian Kofane
Newcastle and Villa are understood to be monitoring Kofane closely after his promising start to life in Germany. The forward is regarded as a player with significant potential, and his performances have continued to attract attention since his move to Leverkusen.
Kofane joined Bayer from Spanish second-tier side Albacete in July 2025, signing a contract running until June 2029. Leverkusen described him at the time as a powerful, quick and technically gifted striker with the potential to develop into an important player for the club.
He registered seven goals and six assists in all competitions last season and has begun the 2026-27 campaign impressively, scoring twice in his opening two appearances.
Newcastle’s interest reflects the club’s growing focus on younger players with room to develop, while Aston Villa have also undergone a substantial squad refresh. Both teams strengthened during the summer, but Kofane’s age and versatility would make him an attractive long-term addition to either attack.
Leverkusen hold strong position over January move
Any deal is likely to depend heavily on Leverkusen’s asking price. The German club have little obvious reason to sell a highly rated young forward midway through the season, particularly if Kofane continues to make an impression in the Bundesliga.
Newcastle and Aston Villa therefore face a potentially competitive negotiation in January, with Kofane’s form over the next few months likely to determine whether either club moves decisively for him.
