Three people have died after a news helicopter crashed in the Chatsworth neighbourhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, 15 September.
The aircraft came down shortly before 7pm between two commercial buildings on North Mason Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The impact triggered a fire which damaged four vehicles and two storage containers.
The helicopter was identified as NewsChopper4, operated by Angel City Air for NBC4 Los Angeles and Telemundo 52. It had been providing aerial coverage of a separate collision involving a Metro bus nearby.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and searched the wreckage as police secured the scene. None of those who died had been publicly identified.
The cause of the Los Angeles helicopter crash remains unclear. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been contacted as part of the investigation.
NBC4 and Telemundo 52 said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to share that a helicopter providing aerial news coverage for NBC4 and Telemundo 52 was involved in a fatal accident in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening.”
