Nick Reiner’s legal team says he has received no money from his family trust, including the $5 needed for basic items from the jail commissary, despite claiming he is owed $558,000.
The trust is reportedly worth $1.6 billion. In a filing, his lawyers said Reiner had been unable to access funds for “even $5 from his trust to buy basic subsistence items from the jail commissary.”
The dispute comes as Reiner’s siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, oppose him accessing the family trust. Reiner is charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances over the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele.
Despite the family’s position on access to the trust, Reiner will not face the death penalty, according to the material. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman took into account that Jake and Romy did not want their brother to be executed.
The wishes of Rob and Michele Reiner were also considered. Both had firmly opposed the death penalty, which was another factor in the district attorney’s decision.
