A 39-year-old man was shot dead and another man was wounded and taken into custody after a domestic-related confrontation in Pontiac, Michigan, on Saturday evening.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to the 50 block of Monroe Street at about 7.15pm on 19 September following a report of a domestic disturbance. Gunshots were heard in the background of a call to the sheriff’s operations centre.
They found the 39-year-old man, from Mount Clemens Township, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 31-year-old man from St Clair Shores was also found with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was arrested without incident and taken to hospital, where he remained under guard.
Investigators believe the shooting followed a confrontation involving the deceased man, his estranged wife and the man now in custody. Several children were present during parts of the incident, but none was physically injured.
Detectives and the sheriff’s forensic science laboratory processed the scene, while the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body for an autopsy.
The 31-year-old is expected to be lodged at Oakland County Jail once he is medically cleared. The case remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, with no charges announced so far.
