A 39-year-old man was killed after being struck by a car while crossing Deer Valley Road in north Phoenix early on Saturday morning, police said.
Emergency crews were called to the area near 33rd Drive and Deer Valley Road, just east of 35th Avenue, at about 4am on September 5. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Phoenix Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Unit believe the pedestrian was crossing the road mid-block, outside a marked crossing, when he was hit by the vehicle.
The driver remained at the scene and co-operated with officers. Police said there were no immediate indications that the driver was impaired, while speed is not believed to have contributed to the collision.
The man’s identity had not been released as authorities worked to notify his next of kin.
The investigation remains ongoing.
