UK police have re-arrested two men on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service as part of an investigation into activity at RAF Fairford last month.
Counter Terrorism Policing said one of the men, a 24-year-old UK citizen, was initially detained outside the military base in south-west England in the early hours of September 27.
The second man is a 25-year-old UK-Iranian dual citizen who had previously been arrested in London, police said.
Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, head of National Counter Terrorism Policing, said: “We consider it highly likely that there is Iranian state involvement.”
The arrests relate to activity at RAF Fairford, which had been used by US bombers to carry out strikes on Iran.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said last week that the activity was likely to have been co-ordinated in Iran.
