Prosecutors in Houston are seeking to deny bond to a 27-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing another man in northeast Houston.
Brandon Lewis is being held in Harris County on a murder charge following the death of a 55-year-old man near the 8800 block of Lockwood Drive, close to Laura Koppe Road, on Tuesday, September 22.
Houston Police Department officers were called to the area after reports of a man lying in the road with a stab wound. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Police have not released the victim’s name while his relatives are being notified. Lewis was identified by witnesses and detained after a short foot chase, according to investigators.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has filed a motion requesting a hearing to keep Lewis in custody without bond. No bond had been set as of Wednesday, September 23.
Investigators said the incident may have followed an argument involving three men on a Houston METRO bus, which continued after they got off near the bus stop. One man was allegedly stabbed before the suspect tried to flee.
People nearby reportedly restrained the suspect until police arrived, and investigators said the weapon believed to have been used was recovered. Police are also seeking surveillance footage from inside the bus.
METRO has denied that the incident was connected to its operations or that the stabbing began on one of its buses. The circumstances leading up to the confrontation remain under investigation.
