Human remains found in a heavily wooded area of Frederickson, Washington, have prompted a death investigation by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the 7700 block of 176th Street East at about 11am on Wednesday, 23 September, after receiving a report of possible human remains.
Officers confirmed the discovery and maintained a substantial police presence in the area through the afternoon as investigators examined the scene and collected evidence.
Identity of remains not yet established
The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition and could not be identified at the scene, according to Deputy Carly Cappetto.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office will now work to establish the person’s identity and determine the cause and manner of death.
No details have been released about the circumstances surrounding the death, and authorities have not said whether they believe foul play was involved.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
