Minneapolis police have released an image of a car they believe is connected to a mass shooting that left nine people wounded outside the Reign Event Center in the city’s Uptown district.
The shooting happened shortly after midnight on July 19, when gunfire broke out near the venue on the 2900 block of Hennepin Avenue. Officers arrived in less than a minute and called for reinforcements as they found several injured people among a large crowd.
Police appeal over black Infiniti
Investigators are searching for a black 2016 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400. The vehicle has distinctive wheels, red brake callipers, heavily tinted windows and a sunroof.
It is believed to have Wisconsin blackout registration plate ZAC-6116. Police have warned members of the public not to approach the car or anyone inside it, but to call 911 if they see it.
Nine people, aged between 18 and 27, were injured in the shooting. Seven men and two women were taken to hospital, with two of the men suffering potentially life-threatening wounds. Police later said both were expected to survive.
Four victims were found at the scene, while others made their own way to Hennepin Healthcare and Abbott Northwestern Hospital. The Minneapolis Police Department said preliminary information suggested the gunfire followed an altercation and that investigators were examining whether shots had been fired from a vehicle.
There have been no arrests. Police forensic teams have processed the area outside the event centre and collected evidence as detectives work to establish what happened.
One of the seriously injured victims, 20-year-old Deven Wyatt, suffered spinal cord injuries, several broken ribs and a collapsed lung, according to his family. They told local media he was unlikely to walk again.
