Residents are being urged to steer clear of a reported ‘hostage situation’ unfolding in the NSW South Coast town of Bomaderry.
Emergency services have swarmed Ritchie Street, with police warning the public to avoid the area, located 5km north of Nowra, as the incident continues.
While authorities have released few official details, sources told Daily Mail Australia a standoff had been underway involving a man inside a property.
There were also early, unconfirmed reports of a possible hostage situation, although this has not been verified by NSW Police.
Sources said officers stormed the home and the man was removed from the property after a fire broke out. He is reportedly in a critical condition.
Locals have reported seeing a large number of police vehicles and emergency crews racing towards the scene.
‘On our way back from Wollongong and there were so many cop cars and emergency vehicles speeding through Berry. It must be pretty bad whatever is going on,’ one resident wrote on social media.
Another added: ‘More police are still coming. We drove past and have seen another three undercover cars with sirens on, a Fire and Rescue truck and a paddy wagon boosting down the freeway towards Bomaderry.
